“Vengeance, madness, a kingdom lost….
From a supporting character in Hamlet to helming her own tale, OPHELIA sees Shakespeare’s eponymous character (played by Daisy Ridley) take to forefront of a story full of lust, betrayal and destiny. Directed by Claire McCarthy and starring Naomi Watts as Queen Gertrude, Clive Owen as Claudius, and George Mackay as Hamlet, OPHELIA is a re-imagining of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays and based on the novel Ophelia by Lisa Klein.
Full of political unrest, a clandestine love and showing a kingdom on the verge of war, Ophelia is a lady-in-waiting who falls for the crown prince, Hamlet. When Hamlet’s father is murdered, however, and his uncle ascends to the throne, rumours and betrayal take hold of the court. All becomes not fair in either love or war, and Ophelia and Hamlet are forced to both decide and declare where their true loyalties lie.”
